Kashmir Haat to Host 2-Day Trainee Handicrafts Sale: Authentic GI-Tagged Products at Cost Price

SRINAGAR, J&K — February 24, 2026The Department of Handicrafts & Handloom is set to launch a vibrant two-day Trainee Products’ Sale at the iconic Kashmir Haat (Numaish Gah) in Srinagar, starting February 25, 2026.

This unique exhibition will showcase an extensive array of artisanal goods crafted by students from 432 training centers spread across all ten districts of the Kashmir Division. Shoppers can expect a premium selection of traditional crafts, including hand-knotted woolen carpets, GI-tagged Pashmina and Kani shawls, intricate Sozni and Zari embroidered suits, and delicate Papier Mâché decor.

The collection also features functional art such as Crewel curtains, Chainstitch rugs, and eco-friendly Willow Wicker souvenirs, representing the rich cultural tapestry of the valley. In a move to make authentic local art accessible to all, the department has announced that these products will be sold at highly affordable, material-only rates.

By excluding labor costs from the final price, the initiative ensures that buyers receive genuine handmade items at “cost-to-cost” value while providing a high-visibility platform for emerging artisans to exhibit their skills.

This model has proven immensely successful in the past, with the last three exhibitions generating a combined revenue of ₹57 lakh. Officials anticipate a massive turnout this year, particularly for high-demand items like Pashmina and Crewel, as the department continues to bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern market demand.
