Farooq Abdullah Urges J&K Students to Leave Iran Immediately Amid Escalating US-Iran Tensions
SRINAGAR, February 24, 2026 — National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah has issued an urgent appeal to students from Jammu and Kashmir currently residing in Iran, advising them to return to India without delay.
His statement follows a critical advisory released by the Indian Embassy in Tehran, which urged all Indian nationals—particularly students, pilgrims, and professionals—to leave the country via available commercial flights due to the deteriorating security situation.
Abdullah expressed deep concern over the safety of Kashmiri youth, warning that a potential closure of airspace or disruption in communication could leave families in a state of panic and make future evacuations nearly impossible.
The heightened alert comes as geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran reach a boiling point, with reports of a massive U.S. military buildup in the region and the looming threat of targeted airstrikes.
The Indian Embassy has emphasized that those whose stay is not essential should depart immediately to avoid being stranded in the event of a full-scale conflict. Experts have noted that many Indian students in Iran, especially those pursuing MBBS and other professional degrees, are facing significant anxiety regarding their academic future; however, officials stress that personal safety must remain the top priority.
The Embassy has instructed all citizens to stay in constant contact with the mission, keep their travel documents ready, and strictly follow local safety protocols as the situation evolves.
