IAF’s Desert Tigers Celebrate 60 Years: 220 Squadron Marks Diamond Jubilee of Valour

New Delhi, February 22, 2026 — The Indian Air Force’s prestigious 220 Squadron, famously known as the “Desert Tigers,” officially commemorated its Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years of distinguished service, unwavering commitment, and strategic excellence.

The milestone celebration served as a grand tribute to a legacy forged in the heat of battle and sustained through decades of aerial dominance. The event was graced by high-ranking officials, including Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Air Command, and Air Marshal JS Mann, Senior Air Staff Officer of Western Air Command.

A significant gathering of veterans also attended, honoring the foundational courage and dedication that have defined the squadron’s history since its inception.The anniversary was highlighted by a series of spectacular displays showcasing the IAF’s elite skills and discipline.

The Air Warrior Drill Team performed a high-precision routine reflecting the core values of teamwork and military excellence, while the Akashganga Team thrilled spectators with a breathtaking skydiving exhibition. Historically, the Desert Tigers have been central to India’s defense, having played decisive roles in the 1965 and 1971 Wars, as well as undertaking critical combat missions during the Kargil conflict.

More recently, the squadron demonstrated its continued versatility and readiness through its active participation in Operation Sindoor. Standing six decades strong, 220 Squadron remains a cornerstone of the Indian Air Force, continuing to uphold its motto of being ever vigilant and ever victorious.
