Delhi High Alert: Intelligence Warns of LeT Terror Threat Near Red Fort and Chandni Chowk

NEW DELHI, Feb 21, 2026 — Security agencies in the national capital have been placed on high alert following credible intelligence inputs warning of a potential terror strike near the historic Red Fort. Sources indicate that the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is allegedly plotting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack, specifically aiming to target a temple in the busy Chandni Chowk area. This heightened threat level comes as the group reportedly seeks to retaliate for a mosque blast that occurred in Islamabad, Pakistan, on February 6.

Intelligence officials have underscored that prominent religious sites across the country, and specifically within Old Delhi, remain firmly on the radar of these extremist elements. The alert emphasizes that the LeT is planning a “major strike” to avenge the recent events in Pakistan, leading to increased surveillance and police presence around sensitive landmarks and high-traffic places of worship.

This latest security concern follows the tragic car explosion near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on November 10, 2025, which claimed 12 lives. As the city remains on edge, legal proceedings regarding that previous attack continue; on February 13, a Special NIA Court at Patiala House granted investigators an additional 45 days to conclude their probe. While the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had requested a 90-day window, the court instead extended the judicial custody of seven accused individuals until March 13, 2026.(Agencies)
