A specialized team from the Tikri Police Post intercepted a white Hyundai i20 (Registration No. JK05J-1009) traveling from Jammu toward Srinagar. Upon inspecting the vehicle and its occupants, officers recovered 26.04 grams of heroin from their possession.

The individuals, identified as Mehraj Ul Bashir and Basharat Ahmed Ganie, both residents of the Baramulla district, were unable to provide any legal justification for carrying the contraband, leading to their immediate arrest and the impounding of the vehicle.

Following the recovery, a formal case has been registered under FIR No. 37/2026, invoking Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Rehambal Police Station. This operation is part of an intensified crackdown by regional authorities to disrupt the drug supply chain moving through the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.

Police officials stated that a thorough investigation has been launched to trace the origin of the seized heroin and identify any broader networks involved in this illicit trade, reaffirming their commitment to a drug-free society.
