Indian Army and IAF Launch Massive Firefighting Operation to Contain Walong Forest Fires

ANJAW, ARUNACHAL PRADESH – February 18, 2026 — In a high-stakes battle against nature, the Indian Army’s Spear Corps, under the aegis of the Eastern Command, has joined forces with the Indian Air Force (IAF) and local civil administration to combat a relentless forest fire in the Walong sector.

Since the blaze first ignited on February 13, 2026, emergency teams have been working tirelessly in the Anjaw district, navigating treacherous mountainous terrain, unpredictable high-velocity winds, and a dense blanket of smoke that has complicated visibility.

To protect the region’s lives, property, and highly fragile ecosystem, the military has mobilized an extensive array of manpower, heavy machinery, and specialized aerial assets to suppress the flames and prevent further spread into sensitive areas.
