Security Forces Detect Suspicious Object on Srinagar-Baramulla Highway; Bomb Disposal Squad Dispatched

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 18, 2026 — Security was heightened on the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway early Wednesday morning after a road opening party (ROP) detected a suspicious object near the Mirgund area.
Following the discovery, a joint team comprising the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) immediately rushed to the scene to secure the perimeter.
A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was promptly called in to examine the object under strict safety protocols, ensuring the protection of nearby residents and commuters on the vital arterial route.
The security forces cordoned off the affected stretch, temporarily halting traffic to facilitate a thorough inspection and prevent any potential threat to public safety.
Official sources stated that the situation was brought under control without incident, and the object was being handled according to standard operating procedures.
While the nature of the object is being verified, an investigation has been launched to determine its origin and intent. Normalcy is being restored as security personnel maintain a high state of vigilance across the region.
