J&K Assembly Witnessed Uproar Over BJP MLA’s “Land Encroachment” Remarks

SRINAGAR, Feb 17, 2026 – The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was gripped by chaotic scenes on Tuesday as opposition and treasury bench members clashed over controversial remarks made by BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa.

The tension erupted when MLA Langate, Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad, stood up to challenge Randhawa’s recent allegations that Kashmiris have illegally occupied Jammu Development Authority (JDA) land.

Ahmad’s intervention quickly gained momentum as he was joined by MLA Irfan Hafeez Lone, National Conference legislators, and several other members, leading to a high-decibel exchange of words that temporarily disrupted house proceedings.

The protest took a satirical turn when an MLA displayed a placard prominently featuring “Khasra No. 211.” The move was a direct jab at Randhawa, who has reportedly been served a show-cause notice by the JDA for alleged encroachment on state land at Chak Ganeshu village in Jammu’s Mandal tehsil.

As lawmakers traded barbs and slogans, the session highlighted the deep-seated political friction regarding land rights and regional rhetoric.

The Speaker struggled to maintain order as both sides engaged in aggressive counter-protests, reflecting the volatile atmosphere currently surrounding land ownership debates in the Union Territory.
