Baramulla Police Seize Large Cache of Illegal Timber in Kunzer; Accused Arrested in Major Forestry Crackdown
BARAMULLA, Feb 16, 2026 — In a decisive strike against the illegal timber trade, the Baramulla Police successfully intercepted and seized a significant quantity of illicit forest timber in the Goigam area of Kunzer. Acting on high-level intelligence regarding timber smuggling, a specialized police team from Police Station Kunzer conducted a targeted raid and search operation.
The team recovered a substantial cache of processed wood, including 38 window frames and several high-value planks of varying dimensions, all of which were being held without legal authorization.The contraband was recovered directly from the possession of Khurshheed Ahmad Khan, a resident of Goigam, who was apprehended on the spot.
Following the recovery, authorities formally registered Case FIR No. 13/2026 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 26 of the Indian Forest Act.
As the investigation continues to uncover potential smuggling networks, the Baramulla Police have reaffirmed their zero-tolerance policy toward the depletion of forest resources, warning that strict legal action will persist against anyone found sabotaging the region’s ecological balance.
