DG CISF Reviews Maritime Security and Surveillance Preparedness at Chennai Port

CHENNAI, INDIA — 15 February 2026 — In a comprehensive move to bolster coastal security, the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Praveer Ranjan, conducted a high-level review of operational preparedness at the Chennai Port.

Demonstrating a hands-on approach to maritime safety, the DG undertook a patrolling sortie alongside CISF Marine Commandos to personally evaluate the force’s surveillance protocols and rapid response capabilities.

During the visit, Ranjan also inspected the Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) Centre, where he scrutinized vessel monitoring systems and navigational safety measures, highlighting that technology-driven solutions are the backbone of modern port security.

Following the field assessment, a Sainik Sammelan was organized where the DG commended the South Sector for the successful execution of the recent Cyclothon.

Shifting focus to personnel welfare and professional standards, he urged the force to prioritize discipline and mental health under the “Project Mann” initiative while constantly upgrading their professional skill sets.

The visit concluded with an interactive session between the DG and private security personnel from both the Chennai and Ennore Ports; here, Ranjan emphasized that a truly effective security framework relies on seamless unity and close coordination between private stakeholders and the CISF.
