REASI, February 11, 2026 — In a major breakthrough for regional law enforcement, the Reasi Police have successfully apprehended a hardcore offender who had been evading arrest for several years. The accused, identified as Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Ghordi in the Ramnagar area of Udhampur District, was wanted in connection with a string of serious criminal offenses dating back to 2017.
His criminal record includes multiple FIRs registered for theft, extortion, house-trespass, and destruction of evidence under various sections of the RPC and IPC, specifically FIR Nos. 14/2017, 49/2019, 190/2022, and 193/2022.The arrest was the result of a meticulously planned operation by a dedicated team from the Katra Police Station, who launched a focused manhunt following specific intelligence inputs. In addition to the standing criminal cases, a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) had been pending against Kumar, marking him as a high-priority target for the district police.
Following his capture, he was produced before the Hon’ble Court for further legal proceedings.
The successful operation was conducted by SHO Katra, Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the direct supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey and SP Katra Vipon Chandran.
