SRINAGAR, Feb 11, 2026 — Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, informed the Legislative Assembly today that the government has sanctioned a new Lift Irrigation Scheme (LIS) specifically for the Zainpora Constituency. Replying to a question raised by Legislator Showkat Hussain Ganie, the Minister detailed that the “Construction of LIS Heff Lonepora, Shopian” has been approved under the NABARD RIDF-XXXI framework with a dedicated budget of ₹239.00 lakh. This strategic project is designed to cover a Cultivable Command Area (CCA) of 50 hectares, ensuring a reliable water supply for local agricultural lands that have historically faced irrigation challenges.
The Minister further noted that the project is on a structured timeline, with a targeted completion date in 2029. During the session, several other lawmakers, including MLAs Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, and Shabir Ahmad Kullay, raised supplementary questions regarding the broader state of water management in the region. In response, Javed Rana emphasized that the modernization of irrigation schemes is a top priority for the current administration. He assured the House that the government is implementing robust measures to upgrade infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir, focusing heavily on rural constituencies where agriculture remains the backbone of the economy.
