SRINAGAR, February 11, 2026 — Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, IPS, convened a comprehensive joint security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to finalize preparations for several upcoming high-profile events.
The session brought together senior leadership from the Jammu & Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, intelligence agencies, the Railways, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) currently deployed throughout the Kashmir Zone. During the meeting, IGP Birdi evaluated the current security landscape and stressed the critical importance of seamless inter-agency coordination, robust intelligence sharing, and active public cooperation to ensure regional stability.
Special directives were issued to District Police Chiefs to launch intensified market checking drives alongside civil administration officials to prevent hoarding, black marketing, and the overpricing of essential goods. Furthermore, in anticipation of a surge in tourist arrivals, the IGP ordered a significant increase in security at all major tourist destinations and along the National Highway.
Railway security also received special attention, with mandates for enhanced patrolling, surveillance, and public awareness initiatives to prevent accidents on tracks.
Concluding the review, IGP Birdi instructed all officers to maintain a high state of vigilance and strengthen response mechanisms to guarantee a peaceful environment across the Kashmir Valley during the forthcoming events.
