SHOPIAN — February 09, 2026Demonstrating a swift response to local crime, the Shopian Police successfully solved a high-stakes theft case within hours of its registration on Monday.
The investigation led to the arrest of a primary suspect and the recovery of a significant cache of stolen electronic goods. The case was initiated following a formal complaint by Mohammad Altaf Wani, owner of “Mobile World” on Hospital Road, who reported that burglars had broken into his establishment during the night of February 7–8, decamping with various mobile devices and high-end accessories.
Following the registration of FIR No. 08/2026, a dedicated police team utilized technical surveillance and strategic investigative efforts to identify and apprehend the accused, identified as Umar Akbar Malik of Khasipora, Shopian. Upon his arrest and subsequent disclosure, officers recovered five mobile phones, one tablet, an Apple Watch, and various other accessories.
The prompt recovery has been hailed as a testament to the department’s commitment to protecting local businesses and maintaining public order.The investigation further revealed the involvement of a second individual, identified as a juvenile associate of the accused. In strict adherence to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, the identity of the minor has been withheld, and specialized legal proceedings have been initiated.
