BANDIPORA, FEBRUARY 08, 2026 — In a life-saving mission demonstrating high-level administrative coordination, a minor girl from the snow-bound Bagtore area of Gurez was successfully evacuated via helicopter following a traumatic 16-foot fall.
The child was initially stabilized at NTPHC Bagtore, where medical staff identified critical symptoms of a serious head injury, including temporal swelling and drowsiness. Recognizing that Gurez remains cut-off from the rest of the district due to heavy snow and challenging terrain, the Bandipora District Administration acted with urgency to bypass the limited surface connectivity.
Through the seamless collaboration of the Health Department and aviation authorities, the evacuation was executed within just two hours of the incident, transporting the patient to the District Hospital before her final referral to SKIMS Srinagar for advanced neurosurgical care.
This proactive response highlights the critical role of the administration’s emergency air-bridge in providing a vital safety net for residents living in Jammu and Kashmir’s most remote and isolated regions.
