Shopian Police Arrest Pulwama Resident for Drug Peddling; 450 Grams of Charas Recovered

SHOPIAN, Feb 05, 2026 – Continuing its relentless crackdown on the narcotics trade, the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a drug peddler in the Imamsahib area of Shopian and recovered a significant quantity of contraband.

During a specialized “naka” (checkpoint) operation at the Wachohallan crossing, a vigilant police party from Police Station Imamsahib intercepted an individual exhibiting suspicious behavior.

Upon conducting a tactical apprehension and subsequent search, officers recovered approximately 450 grams of a Charas-like substance from his possession.

The suspect has been identified as Shahbaz Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Khalan Litter, Pulwama.Following the recovery, the authorities registered FIR No. 09/2026 under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Imamsahib.

An active investigation has been launched to map the forward and backward linkages of the accused, aiming to dismantle the wider network involved in this illegal trade.

Reaffirming its dedication to a drug-free society, the J&K Police has urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement in their mission to eradicate the menace of drug abuse from the region.
