Jammu Agriculture Department Cracks Down on Fertilizer Overcharging Amid Farmer Complaints

JAMMU, February 01, 2026: Following a direct mandate from Director Agriculture Jammu, Anil Gupta, the Enforcement Wing of the Agriculture Department has launched an intensive special drive across Jammu district to combat the illegal overcharging of fertilizers.

This decisive action was triggered by a high-level meeting where Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Bishnah, Dr. Rajeev Bhagat, briefed Assistant Director Law Enforcement (ALDE) Kuldeep Singh on mounting grievances from the farming community regarding dealers selling essential inputs above government-prescribed rates in Bishnah, RS Pura, and neighboring regions.

In response, a specialized team—including ALDE Kuldeep Singh, Law Enforcement Inspector Nazeesh Altaf, and SDAO RS Pura Arun Jaral—conducted widespread inspections that resulted in the immediate issuance of show-cause notices to erring dealers found violating the Fertilizer Control Order (FCO), 1985.

While law-abiding distributors were commended for their ethical conduct, a comprehensive report has been submitted to the Chief Agriculture Officer Jammu for stringent legal proceedings.

To ensure long-term compliance, Director Gupta has ordered all field functionaries and Panchayat-level officers to maintain a constant vigil at agri-input outlets, warning that surprise inspections will continue across all districts to safeguard farmers’ interests and uphold market integrity.
