UDHAMPUR | January 28, 2026:-In a remarkable display of humanitarian service, the Indian Army successfully rescued a woman and her newborn baby in the remote Latti region of Udhampur district amidst extreme weather conditions.
The area has been gripped by heavy snowfall, with nearly two feet of snow accumulation paralyzing normal life and making transportation nearly impossible. The crisis began in Didibager, approximately 6 kilometers away from the nearest medical facility, when a woman who had recently given birth developed sudden, life-threatening complications.
Faced with blocked roads and freezing temperatures, the Indian Army personnel acted swiftly, navigating the treacherous, snow-covered terrain to safely evacuate the mother and child to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Latti.
The rescue operation was a highly coordinated effort between the military and local administration. Under the direct supervision of SDM Dudu, Dr. Manmeet Kumar (JKAS), and with the medical expertise of Dr. Pradeep, the Medical Officer at CHC Latti, the patient received immediate and critical care upon arrival. This timely intervention by the Army and the local administration has been widely praised for saving two precious lives in a situation where every minute counted.
The incident highlights the vital role played by security forces in providing emergency relief to residents in the most inaccessible and snow-bound reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.
