SRINAGAR January 28, 2026:- The Meteorological Centre (MeT) in Srinagar has issued a fresh weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting a return of precipitation following a period of widespread activity across the region.
After 24 hours of light to moderate rain and snow—with some isolated areas experiencing heavy falls—the weather is expected to stabilize briefly. While January 28 may see lingering light showers or flurries in select spots, a dry spell is anticipated from January 29 through the morning of January 31.
However, conditions are set to shift again by February 1 and 2, as generally cloudy skies are expected to bring light to moderate rain and snowfall to scattered and widespread areas across the territory.
Looking further ahead into the first week of February, the MeT department warns of increasingly volatile conditions between February 3 and 6. During this window, the region may face moderate to heavy rain, significant snowfall, or thunderstorms in specific locations.
In light of these predictions, authorities have issued several safety advisories: travelers and transporters are urged to verify highway conditions with traffic officials before commuting, while farmers have been advised to halt all agricultural operations through the end of today.
Additionally, residents in high-altitude, snow-bound zones are cautioned against entering avalanche-prone or slippery areas to prevent accidents.
