Srinagar District Administration Issues Urgent Weather Advisory Amid Heavy Rain and Snow Forecast

Srinagar, January 27, 2026: In response to a deteriorating weather forecast predicting widespread light to moderate rain and snow across the Kashmir Division, the Office of the District Magistrate Srinagar has issued an urgent weather advisory effective through January 31st, 2026.

Authorities have strongly advised the general public of District Srinagar to refrain from venturing outdoors and to avoid all unnecessary road travel except in cases of absolute necessity. This precautionary measure aims to ensure public safety as inclement conditions are expected to impact visibility and road traction throughout the region.

Furthermore, the advisory places strict restrictions on activities around major water bodies, specifically targeting tourists, local Shikara Wallas, and sand miners operating in and around Dal Lake and the River Jhelum. These individuals are cautioned against attempting any crossings or operations without first verifying the current safety status and water levels.

To manage potential exigencies, the administration has activated the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) and the Police Control Room (PCR), providing dedicated landline and WhatsApp helplines for immediate assistance. Local officials, including the Additional Deputy Commissioner and CEO of the DDMA, have urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with safety protocols to minimize risks during this period of severe weather.
