Republic Day 2026: Northern Railway Illuminates Chenab and Anji Bridges in Tricolur Splendor

JAMMU January 25, 2026 — To commemorate India’s 77th Republic Day, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway has launched a spectacular lighting initiative, bathing its major stations and iconic engineering landmarks in the vibrant colors of the national tricolor.

This marks the first Republic Day celebration since the formal establishment of the Jammu Division in 2025. In a grand display of national pride and engineering excellence, the world’s highest rail bridge—the Chenab Bridge—and India’s first cable-stayed Anji Bridge have been illuminated, creating a glowing tribute to the nation’s progress and the ongoing development of Jammu and Kashmir.

The illumination project extends across the entire division, transforming key hubs such as Jammu, Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Srinagar, and Pathankot into patriotic beacons. Other significant stations including Banihal, Budgam, Reasi, Gurdaspur, and Palampur have also been decorated, offering passengers a festive and immersive Republic Day experience.

Beyond the aesthetic appeal, the lighting of these architectural marvels highlights the resilience of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. Designed to withstand extreme conditions, these bridges can operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +45°C and endure wind speeds of up to 300\text{ km/h}, symbolizing the strength of a self-reliant India.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Jammu, Uchit Singhal, emphasized that the initiative aims to ignite a sense of national enthusiasm among travelers while showcasing the region’s tourism potential.

By highlighting the strategic importance of an all-weather rail network connecting Jammu and Kashmir to the rest of the country, the Jammu Division reiterates its commitment to nation-building.

The tricolor spectacle has already become a major attraction for locals and tourists alike, standing as a testament to Indian Railways’ engineering prowess and the spirit of the 77th Republic Day.
