KPDCL Restores 90% of Kashmir Power Network as War-Footing Repairs Continue
SRINAGAR, J&K | JANUARY 24, 2026 – The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has made significant strides in restoring electricity across the Valley, successfully energizing nearly 90% of its sub-transmission network following a severe winter storm. High-speed gusty winds and heavy snowfall had previously crippled the electrical grid, blowing rooftops onto power lines and causing widespread infrastructure damage.
According to KPDCL officials, 120 out of 135 essential 33 kV lines have been restored at the sub-transmission level, while 912 out of 1,302 11 kV feeders are now back online. A current load of 1,220 MW recorded by the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) indicates that power has returned to a major section of the public.Restoration efforts are currently being intensified in the higher reaches of Shopian, Kulgam, and Budgam, where accessibility remains a challenge due to snow accumulation. In North Kashmir, repair work is specifically focused on a damaged transmission tower at Sheeri on the Delina–LJHP 132 kV line.
To expedite electricity restoration in the Baramulla and Uri sectors, the Jammu and Kashmir Power Transmission Corporation Limited (JKPTCL) is deploying an Emergency Restoration System (ERS). The entire operation is being closely monitored by the Financial Commissioner and Managing Director of KPDCL to ensure essential services are fully normalized as quickly as possible.
