JODHPUR, Jan 10, 2026 — Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah addressed the Maheshwari Global Convention and Expo 2026 today, highlighting the community’s historic and ongoing contributions to India’s economic and cultural strength. Speaking in the presence of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, and Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Shah emphasized that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, India has surged from the 11th-largest economy to the fourth, with a clear path to becoming the third-largest globally. He praised the Maheshwari community for embodying the balance between tradition and progress, noting their transition from supporting royal treasuries during Mughal conflicts to financially bolstering the freedom movement led by Mahatma Gandhi. Shah remarked that the community has consistently acted as a job creator rather than a job seeker, proving that organized communities serve as pillars of national unity rather than symbols of narrow-mindedness.
During his keynote, Shah underscored the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India) initiative, asserting that the country can only achieve its full potential by embracing the dual mantras of Swadeshi (indigenous products) and Swabhasha (mother tongue). He noted that the Modi government has already established a robust platform for the younger generation by doubling exports, reaching a $4 trillion economy, and leading the world in digital transactions. Highlighting the cultural significance of the community, he recalled the sacrifices made by its members during the Ram Temple movement and urged the youth to continue this legacy by prioritizing Indian languages and local manufacturing. Shah concluded by reiterating the vision for a developed India by 2047, stating that if every community resolves to uplift its own members and promote self-reliance, the collective goal of a prosperous, leading nation will be realized automatically.
