Udhampur Police Achieve Major Milestone with 122 Bovine Smuggling Convictions in 2025

UDHAMPUR, JANUARY 03, 2026 — Udhampur Police have recorded a significant victory in their crackdown on illegal animal transportation, securing 122 convictions in bovine smuggling cases throughout the year 2025.

This achievement follows a period of intensive enforcement across various jurisdictions, including the Udhampur, Rehambal, Chenani, Ramnagar, and Majalta Police Stations. In total, the police registered 188 cases and arrested 220 individuals, a figure that includes 212 primary accused and eight persons detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

The department’s success was driven by a combination of rigorous highway interceptions and specialized naka checking, which resulted in the rescue of 1,189 bovines.

Furthermore, 144 vehicles utilized in these smuggling operations were seized by the authorities. Local officials attributed the high conviction rate to timely, thorough investigations and a highly effective prosecution strategy.
