SRINAGAR 30 December :- The Kashmir Division witnessed a sharp rise in fire-related emergencies as 11 separate incidents were recorded across multiple districts within the last 24 hours. These blazes resulted in significant damage to residential houses, educational infrastructure, and agricultural assets.
According to the Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES) Kashmir the department responded promptly to every distress call, deploying fire tenders and personnel to contain the flames and prevent what could have been catastrophic losses in congested localities.
In the summer capital of Srinagar, a major fire broke out in Umar Colony, Lal Bazar, where a three-storey residential house sustained substantial damage. Educational infrastructure was also hit as a single-storey school building caught fire in the Dewan Bagh area of Sopore, Baramulla.
The rural heartlands were not spared either; a double-storey residential house was severely affected in Gund, Qazigund (Kulgam), while a cowshed was damaged in Magam, Kupwara, and a GCI-sheet shed was gutted in Letpora, Awantipora. The agricultural sector faced losses as well, with a haystack (cow fodder) destroyed in Safapora, Ganderbal, and a walnut tree damaged in Pir Khan Abad, Kupwara. In South Kashmir’s Shopian, a shop in the Bongam area was partially damaged before firemen could douse the flames.
While the remaining incidents were classified as minor outbreaks and controlled swiftly, the sheer volume of calls in a single day has sparked concern.
Authorities have issued a fresh advisory urging the public to exercise extreme caution with heating appliances and electrical circuits during the winter months, emphasizing the importance of immediate reporting to the F&ES in case of any emergency.
