Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launches Shubham-Shivam cleanliness campaign for Shri Amarnath ji Yatra

SRINAGAR, June 28, 2026Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched the Directorate of Rural Sanitation’s Shubham–Shivam campaign at the Baltal base camp, marking a significant step toward achieving a sustainable, clean, and zero-landfill Shri Amarnath ji Yatra.

Along with a suite of eco-innovations, the Lieutenant Governor unveiled a new website, pilgrimage anthem, logo, and mascot dedicated to environmental preservation. He expressed gratitude to the sanitation workers and volunteers, labeling them the real heroes whose relentless dedication will keep the base camp and both pilgrimage tracks clean, thereby preserving the environment and the spiritual dignity of the annual pilgrimage.

The initiative introduces several circular economy projects and technology-driven interventions to manage waste effectively despite the region’s harsh geographical conditions. Among these is the Trayambakam mobile application, which allows pilgrims to report litter by uploading photos for immediate action by cleaning crews.

Additionally, the Swaha utensil bank will provide steel plates and cups against a small security deposit to reduce disposable waste, while the Amarnath Seva Cafe will allow pilgrims to exchange collected plastic waste for tea and snacks, fostering active community participation in keeping the tracks clean.

To reinforce these eco-friendly measures, the administration has announced a strict regulatory framework that mandates a four-way waste segregation system, a complete ban on single-use plastics, and prescribed sanitation standards for every community kitchen and transit camp.

The launch ceremony was attended by senior administrative and police officials, including Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary Mandeep K Bhandari, and Director General of Rural Sanitation Anoo Malhotra, all under a unified commitment to make the sacred pilgrimage an unparalleled, environmentally responsible experience for visitors.
