LG Jammu and Kashmir Pledges Harsh Action Against Drug Networks Through Collective Social Effort

SAMBA, APRIL 25: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today reaffirmed the government’s commitment to dismantling drug syndicates while emphasizing that the battle against addiction requires a unified societal approach.

Addressing a massive gathering in Samba as part of the 100-day Drug-Free J&K movement, the Lieutenant Governor stated that while law enforcement will strike hard against trafficking networks, the ultimate victory lies in community awareness and cooperation.

He described the ongoing initiative as a historic people’s movement rather than a mere government mandate, noting that the solution rests in the hands of the youth whose potential must be protected by a supportive society.

The Lieutenant Governor set clear benchmarks for the remaining 85 days of the campaign, asserting that success would be measured by tangible outcomes rather than slogans. He called for every Panchayat and police station to be cleared of drug traffickers and mandated weekly audits of progress.

These reviews, conducted by Deputy Commissioners and SSPs, are expected to track rehabilitation numbers, prosecutions of smugglers, the closure of illegal centers, and the formation of women’s committees in local wards.

According to the Lieutenant Governor, this systematic auditing is vital to ensuring a complete chain of care that spans from identification and counseling to full recovery and rehabilitation.

During his address, the Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the security implications of the crisis, noting that drug networks are being fueled by neighboring interests to finance terrorism and trigger social breakdown.

He urged the public to sustain the campaign’s momentum to reach every household across the Union Territory, warning that addiction is a social crisis rather than an individual struggle.

To further engage the community and promote healthy lifestyles, the Lieutenant Governor flagged off a bike rally and inaugurated the Samba Cricket Premier League under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, signaling a new era of hope and resolve for the region.
