Lashkar-e-Taiba Chief Hafiz Saeed Named in Pahalgam Terror Attack Chargesheet
NEW DELHI, July 6, 2026:- The National Investigation Agency filed a supplementary chargesheet on Monday naming Pakistan-based terrorist and Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed in connection with the Pahalgam terror attack.
The anti-terror agency submitted the chargesheet before the Special Court in Jammu, targeting Saeed in his individual capacity as well as in his role leading the banned outfit and its proxy group, The Resistance Front. The charges include several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967, specifically focusing on conspiracy and waging war against India from across the border.
This latest legal filing builds upon an extensive original investigation that documented Pakistan-based conspiracies and Saeed’s direct involvement through scientific and on-ground evidence. In December 2025, the agency previously chargesheeted Pakistani handler Sajid Jatt, alongside two arrested individuals and three terrorists who were killed during security operations in July 2025.
The initial investigation also formally charged the entire Lashkar-e-Taiba and The Resistance Front network as a entity for organizing and executing the assault. The targeted attack occurred on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of twenty-five tourists and one local resident.
Police initially registered the case in Anantnag district before the Ministry of Home Affairs transferred the investigation to the central counter-terrorism agency. Officials stated that investigations remain ongoing to fully uncover the cross-border networks funding and directing the violent operation.
