J&K Police Crack Down on Illegal Mining in Shopian: Three Tractors Seized and FIR Registered

SHOPIAN, Jammu and Kashmir — August 06, 2026: In a continuous effort to curb environmental degradation and enforce regulatory compliance, the Jammu and Kashmir Police executed a targeted operation against illegal mining operations in the Shopian district, resulting in the seizure of heavy equipment and the filing of formal criminal charges. A patrolling team dispatched from the Keegam Police Post intercepted and confiscated three tractors that were actively engaged in the unauthorized extraction and transport of minerals from local stream beds in the Keegam area without the required statutory permits.
