Jammu & Kashmir Police Detain Repeat Drug Offender Under Strict PIT-NDPS Act in Kathua
KATHUA, AUGUST 06, 2026 — In a major crackdown on drug trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir, Kathua Police successfully executed a formal detention warrant under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act against a habitual drug peddler, transferring him to District Jail Udhampur. The action was carried out under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua Mohita Sharma, following official detention authorization from the Divisional Commissioner Jammu aimed at neutralizing persistent narcotics networks operating across the region.
The detained individual has been identified as Parshotam Kumar, a resident of Dhalli in the Hiranagar Tehsil of Kathua district. According to official reports, a specialized team from the Hiranagar Police Station, led by the Station House Officer and guided by senior operational and border district commanders, executed the warrant on August 4, 2026. Authorities confirmed that Kumar has a documented history of illegal narcotics possession and local drug distribution, posing a continuous threat to community health and security within Kathua district.
The legal proceedings were initiated after law enforcement compiled a comprehensive dossier highlighting Kumar’s repeated criminal involvement in illicit drug activities. The dossier documented multiple existing cases under the NDPS Act, including FIR No. 37/2026 registered at Hiranagar Police Station and FIR No. 266/2018 at Rajbagh Police Station, both involving charges under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the NDPS Act. Based on these findings, the Divisional Commissioner Jammu issued detention order number PITNDPS 52 of 2026 on July 23, 2026, enabling police to enforce preventive detention under the strict 1988 anti-narcotics law.
Following the execution of the warrant, Kumar was taken into custody and lodged at District Jail Udhampur to prevent further illicit drug trafficking in the area.
