BRO restores North Sikkim connectivity with new Bailey Bridge

NORTH SIKKIM, JULY 4, 2026:- Project Swastik of the Border Roads Organisation successfully restored a vital transport lifeline in North Sikkim by constructing an 80-foot Bailey Bridge in just five days.

The urgent construction followed the collapse of the Pheechu Bridge on June 28, 2026, which had been washed away by a sudden flash flood on a strategic regional road.Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, Minister for Forest and Environment for the Government of Sikkim, inaugurated the newly built bridge today.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of Brigadier Amit Sakhre, Chief Engineer of Project Swastik, marking the rapid recovery of connectivity to the isolated northern region.
