Amritsar Police busts cross border weapons smuggling network and arrests five suspects
AMRITSAR, May 27, 2026 — The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a major cross-border illegal arms smuggling module, arresting five individuals and recovering eight sophisticated pistols along with live cartridges.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested suspects were operating in coordination with a foreign-based smuggler using virtual communication numbers.
The network had been receiving consignments of weapons and narcotics dropped by drones from across the international border, which were intended for distribution to various criminal elements across Punjab.Following the successful operation, official cases have been registered at the Chheharta police station in Amritsar.
Police authorities are currently conducting a detailed investigation to establish both forward and backward linkages of the operation and to identify any other associates linked to the smuggling network.
The Punjab Police reiterated its strict commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against drugs, illegal firearms trafficking, and organized crime syndicates operating within the state.
