Udhampur 18 December :- Virinder Singh Bhou, Principal District & Sessions Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Udhampur, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the District Jail Udhampur today. Accompanied by a high-level team including Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai and Secretary DLSA Sumati Sharma, the visit focused on assessing the standard of living and the protection of legal rights for inmates.
The delegation, facilitated by Jail Superintendent Mohammad Irfan Khan, conducted a thorough walkthrough of essential facilities, including the residential barracks, medical center, washrooms, and the prison kitchen.
A key priority of the inspection was to ensure that hygiene standards are being maintained and that the quality of food provided to the inmates meets established health protocols.
Beyond the physical infrastructure, the visit emphasized the rehabilitation and mental well-being of the prison population. The officials interacted directly with the inmates to address their grievances and ensure they have access to adequate legal aid through the Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC).
In a display of community spirit, the inmates presented a vibrant cultural program featuring songs and traditional dances, highlighting the creative outlets available within the facility.
By reviewing the adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and discussing long-term rehabilitation measures, the DLSA Chairman reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to maintaining humane conditions and safeguarding the fundamental rights of all individuals within the correctional system.
