Foundation Stone of Phase B Facilities of IIT Jammu Laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Jammu, 27 September : The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu achieved a historic milestone today as the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, laid the Foundation Stone, through online mode, for major infrastructure projects across the country, including the Phase B facilities of IIT Jammu.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister highlighted the pivotal role of IITs in driving innovation, technology, and excellence, and encouraged the IIT Jammu community to contribute proactively to the nation’s progress with renewed determination. The launch of Phase B created great excitement and enthusiasm among the IIT Jammu community, as it marks a transformative step in the institute’s journey.

The ceremony at IIT Jammu was graced in person by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology; Earth Sciences and Minister of State for PMO, Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Space, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh.

He was warmly welcomed by Prof. Anurag Misra, Dean (IPM), Prof. Abhay Sharma, Dean (Academic Affairs), and Col Virinder Singh Jeji (Retd.), Registrar, reflecting the institute’s enthusiasm on this momentous occasion. His presence underscored the importance of this milestone for the institute, the region of Jammu and Kashmir, and the nation as a whole.

With the active support and able guidance of the Ministry of Education, IIT Jammu is now poised for a major expansion of its academic, residential, and research infrastructure through the launch of Phase B development. By October 2028, the campus area will become more than double its present size, while the student strength is expected to grow to approximately 3,000.

The development includes the construction of two new academic blocks and a state-of-the-art building for Saptrishi, along with multidisciplinary research centres that will further strengthen the institute’s research ecosystem.The Phase B facilities will also add significant residential and community infrastructure, including two boys’ hostels, one girls’ hostel, a Student Activity Centre, a Community Centre, a Medical Centre, and residential blocks for faculty and staff.

In addition, a dedicated Research and Innovation Park will be developed to host high-tech industries, opening new avenues for industry-academia collaboration and creating promising opportunities for the youth of the region.This landmark initiative is expected to accelerate IIT Jammu’s growth as a national hub for research, innovation, and technological advancement, contributing not only to academic excellence but also to regional development and nation-building.
