KALABAN, POONCH 17 September : – In a swift response to the recent land subsidence that has caused significant damage and distress in the Kalaban area of Poonch district, the Chief Minister J&K Omar Abdullah conducted a comprehensive ground visit today to personally assess the situation and the extent of the damage.
During his visit, the Omar Abdullah was briefed by local administration and disaster management officials on the immediate impact on homes, infrastructure, and the lives of the residents. Walking through the affected sites, he interacted directly with the displaced families, listening to their concerns and witnessing the challenges they face in the wake of the geological event.Reaffirming his government’s unwavering commitment to its citizens, the Chief Minister announced immediate financial support to provide solace and aid to those affected.
CM sanctioned an on-the-spot relief package of ₹38 lakh for the impacted families. This substantial amount is in addition to the ₹50 lakh already sanctioned under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), bringing the total immediate financial aid to a significant ₹88 lakh. This relief is aimed at helping families meet their urgent needs, including shelter, essential supplies, and rebuilding efforts.
The Chief Minister was accompanied during this crucial visit by the Minister, Javed Rana, underscoring a collective governmental effort to address the crisis. In his address to the media and the locals, the Chief Minister expressed his deep solidarity with the people of Kalaban.
“In this hour of distress, the government stands firmly with you. Our primary focus is your safety, rehabilitation, and ensuring that you receive all necessary support to overcome this difficult period,” he stated. He further directed the district administration to ensure the swift and transparent disbursement of the relief funds and to continue monitoring the situation closely for any further developments, assuring that all possible measures would be taken for the long-term rehabilitation of the area and its residents.
