GCW Udhampur Hosts Patriotic National Anthem Competition Ahead of Independence Day 2026; Winners Advance to District Stage
UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 03, 2026 — As part of the ongoing Independence Day 2026 celebrations mandated by the Directorate of Colleges, Higher Education Department, J&K, the Department of Music at Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur, hosted an Intra-College National Anthem Singing Competition under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Organized under the guidance of Principal Nalini Pathania, the event aimed to foster patriotism, national unity, and musical reverence among students across both Solo and Group singing categories. IQAC Convener Monika Gupta attended as the Chief Guest, praising the initiative for instilling core national values in youth. All top-ranking performers from both categories earned qualification for the upcoming District-Level (Intra-District) round, which will be hosted by the district’s Nodal College.
The competition featured spirited performances, judged by a panel consisting of Yash Paul (Head, Department of History), Sanjay Kumar (Head, Department of Music), and Mukteshi Sharma (Assistant Professor, Department of Music). In the Solo Singing category, which saw 20 competitors, Neha Devi secured First Prize, followed by Manya Verma in second place and Sabhya in third, with Arti Devi and Siya receiving Consolation Prizes. In the Group Singing division featuring nine teams, the top honor was bagged by the quartet of Navisha, Sabhya, Siya, and Manya Verma; the team of Neha Devi, Arti Devi, Sushma Devi, and Harshita placed second, while Sumiti Devi, Shivani Devi, and Lakshmi took third. Instrumental accompaniment was provided by Mahek Devi on harmonium—who also delivered a special solo performance—and Kuldeep Singh on tabla. Coordinated by Yash Kumar, Sunil Magotra, and Kuldeep Singh, and anchored by students Tania and Anuksha, the event concluded with a formal vote of thanks and certificate distribution in the presence of key faculty including Anita Gupta, Mool Raj, and Sandesh Kumar.
