Udhampur, August 03, 2026: Traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) was completely suspended from both ends at 5:00 PM today after heavy rainfall caused severe mudslides at the Dawal slide area near Dawal Bridge in Udhampur district’s Samroli sector.
The affected stretch has been reduced to a single lane with the road surface turning extremely slushy, muddy, and slippery, posing significant safety hazards to commuters. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) personnel equipped with heavy machinery, alongside Traffic Police teams, are currently deployed at the spot to clear the debris and restore the highway.
Authorities have advised commuters to avoid traveling on NH-44 until the road is fully cleared and declared safe for vehicular traffic.
Officials further cautioned the public against relying on unverified rumors and urged travelers to confirm road conditions via official Traffic Police social media handles or by contacting Traffic Control Units in Jammu (0191-2459048, 0191-2740550, 9419147732), Srinagar (0194-2450022, 2485396, 18001807091), or Ramban (9419993745, 1800-180-7043).
