Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Advocates Stronger Startup Ecosystem and Job Opportunities at Srinagar Mega Job Fair

SRINAGAR, July 28 — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reaffirmed his government’s commitment to expanding career avenues for local youth while addressing the valedictory session of the 77th State-Level Mega Job Fair at Amar Singh College. Organised by Cluster University Srinagar and Desh Bhagat University Punjab alongside key development partners, the event saw over 50 national and international companies participate.

The drive resulted in approximately 470 immediate job offers and placed another 430 candidates in the final selection stage out of nearly 5,300 registered applicants.Speaking to educators, officials, and students, Omar Abdullah highlighted that educational institutions must actively assist graduates in transitioning into the workforce rather than limiting their role to degree distribution. He called for regular, institutionalized campus recruitments across all universities in Jammu and Kashmir.

Acknowledging that public sector jobs alone cannot solve unemployment, he emphasized the government’s duty to build industry partnerships, drive private sector hiring, and support skill development to ensure young people access opportunities on par with global standards.

To complement traditional placement efforts, the Chief Minister underscored ongoing state initiatives aimed at boosting entrepreneurship and strengthening the regional startup ecosystem. Efforts are underway to connect young founders with venture capital funding and comprehensive institutional guidance.

During the event, Omar Abdullah personally handed over appointment letters to selected candidates, while Cluster University Srinagar and Desh Bhagat University signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance long-term academic collaboration and skill building.
