PDP Calls for Peaceful Protests on August 5 to Demand Restoration of J&K’s Special Status and Constitutional Safeguards

SRINAGAR, July 28 — Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has called for peaceful, district-level, and region-wide protests across Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 to press for the restoration of the Union Territory’s special constitutional position, including Articles 370 and 35A.

Adopting a comprehensive resolution on its 27th Foundation Day to honor founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the party reaffirmed its dedication to “Peace with Dignity” through dialogue, reconciliation, and regional connectivity by advocating the reopening of historic trade roads and Cross-LoC routes via Muzaffarabad and Rawalakote. Beyond its constitutional demands, the PDP called for the immediate release of political prisoners, a progressive reduction of security forces in civilian areas, separate divisional administrative units for Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley, a fair share of local natural resources including the transfer of two major hydroelectric projects, and a transparent recruitment drive for over one lakh government vacancies.

Additionally, the party pledged to facilitate the safe, dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits, welcomed electoral seat reservations for women, and expressed international solidarity with civilians affected by regional conflicts, emphasizing a peaceful struggle to safeguard democratic rights, dignity, and federal principles.
