Ladakh Organic Apricots Exported to UAE in Historic 1,000 MT Trade Expansion
LEH, July 15, 2026: In a major boost to regional horticulture, the first 5 metric ton (MT) consignment of Ladakh’s world-famous organic apricots was flagged off today to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Announcing the development on X, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena termed the export a historic milestone achieved through a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lulu Group. The partnership grants local farmers direct access to premium international markets, enabling a massive scale-up in operations. The administration aims to export over 1,000 MT of apricots this season—a monumental leap compared to the cumulative 1,500 kg exported over the previous two years.
This aggressive expansion is designed to multiply farmers’ incomes, drastically minimize post-harvest losses, and elevate the overall standard of living in the region. Aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vocal for Local” and “Local to Global,” Saxena expressed strong confidence that the initiative will serve as a vital economic bridge between Ladakh’s agricultural community and global consumers. Moving forward, this giant stride is expected to strengthen the local economy, create sustainable livelihoods, and firmly establish Ladakh as a premier hub for international agricultural exports.
