BJP Threatens Legal Action Against CM Omar Abdullah Over Bribery Allegations

JAMMU, 11 JULY 2026: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a sharp offensive against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday, demanding an unqualified public apology over his allegations that a BJP office-bearer attempted to bribe a National Conference (NC) MLA.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Jammu, senior BJP leader and Udhampur East MLA Advocate R.S. Pathania, alongside party media officials, termed the Chief Minister’s statements “baseless, irresponsible, and politically motivated.” Pathania warned that the BJP would initiate criminal and legal proceedings against Abdullah if he fails to back his claims with verifiable evidence or tender an unconditional apology. Questioning the legitimacy of the claims, the BJP demanded to know why neither the Chief Minister nor the concerned legislator lodged an FIR or reported the matter to the J&K Police or the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Pathania asserted that such grave accusations strike at the foundation of parliamentary democracy and cannot be used as mere political rhetoric. The party further accused Abdullah of using diversionary tactics to shift focus from internal dissent over governance issues within his own ranks, as well as a recent controversy surrounding educational materials that reportedly referred to J&K as “Indian-occupied Kashmir.” Reaffirming its commitment to democratic accountability, the BJP stated it will vigorously defend its reputation against what it labeled false and malicious allegations.
