Punjab resident arrested with heroin in Kathua anti drug operation
KATHUA, July 11, 2026 — In continuation of its sustained crackdown on narcotics under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan campaign, the Kathua police seized approximately five grams of heroin and arrested a drug peddler.
Acting on reliable intelligence, a police team led by the station house officer of Kathua, under the guidance of senior district police officials, set up a special checkpoint and intercepted a motorcycle traveling from the Kerrian side under suspicious circumstances.
The individual operating the vehicle was identified as Mohd Rafi, a resident of Kandila in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab. A search led to the recovery of the contraband substance from his possession, resulting in his immediate arrest and the seizure of the motorcycle. The Kathua Police Station has registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and further investigation is currently underway.
The district police have urged citizens to share information regarding any illicit drug activities to help maintain a drug-free region, assuring that the identity of informants will remain strictly confidential.
