Jammu Police and SDRF Stage Dramatic Rescue of Four Children Stranded in Rising River Tawi
JAMMU, JULY 04, 2026 — A swift and highly coordinated joint operation by the Jammu Police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) successfully saved four children who became trapped in the River Tawi earlier today. The children had gone swimming near the Peer Kho Temple, adjacent to Chowk Chabutra, when a sudden and unexpected surge in the river’s water level left them stranded amidst the fast-flowing currents. Upon receiving a frantic distress call via the Police Control Room (PCR), a rescue team—comprising senior police officials, the SDPO City North, the SHO of Police Station Pacca Danga, and specialized SDRF personnel—rushed to the scene. Thanks to their rapid deployment and seamless teamwork, all four children were safely extracted from the riverbank without sustaining any injuries, narrowly averting a major tragedy.
Safety Warning: Authorities urge the public to completely avoid riverbanks during periods of unpredictable water fluctuations.
Following the successful operation, the SDPO City North utilized a public announcement system to issue an urgent advisory to local residents. Citizens are strongly warned to stay clear of the River Tawi’s edge, while parents are specifically cautioned to monitor their children and prevent them from venturing near water bodies, where sudden flash floods pose an immediate threat to life. As the monsoon season progresses, the Jammu Police appeals to the general public to exercise extreme caution and to immediately report any water-related emergencies to the nearest police station or the PCR.
