ANANTNAG, July 1, 2026 :- The Anantnag police have achieved significant success in their anti-drug campaign during the first six months of 2026, launching a major crackdown on drug trafficking and narcotics abuse. Law enforcement agencies registered 345 FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act between January and June, leading to the arrest of 372 drug peddlers.

During multiple operations across the district, authorities seized more than 440 kilograms of contraband substances and recovered over 27.5 lakh rupees in cash, which is believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug sales.
In an effort to dismantle the financial network of narcotics traffickers, authorities attached properties valued at nearly 50 crore rupees across 30 different cases. Additionally, enforcement teams demolished 20 illegal properties worth approximately 20 crore rupees that were built using drug money.

Special drives also resulted in the destruction of nearly 2,000 kilograms of seized narcotic substances, the eradication of illegal narcotic cultivation across 260 marlas of land, and the retrieval of an equivalent amount of encroached government land previously held by drug peddlers.

The enforcement campaign targeted various individuals involved in narcotics crimes, resulting in the arrest of female drug peddlers, seven female cultivators, and the initiation of legal proceedings against seven government employees. Furthermore, six notorious peddlers were detained under the PIT NDPS Act, while authorities cancelled 24 driving licences and 16 vehicle registration certificates linked to drug offenses.

To prevent the movement of narcotics, the police conducted 203 Narco-Cordon and Search Operations and inspected 214 medical shops with joint teams, identifying 17 violations for legal action. To support these efforts, 96 investigation officers received specialized training at the District Police Office in Anantnag to improve the quality of evidence handling and legal procedures.
