India to launch first hydrogen powered train between Jind and Sonipat

NEW DELHI, May 27, 2026 — The Ministry of Railways has approved the launch of the country’s first hydrogen-powered 10-coach Diesel Electric Multiple Unit train.

The decision marks a major step forward in promoting green and sustainable transportation within the national railway sector.

The environment-friendly train will operate using hydrogen fuel cells to generate clean power, running at a maximum speed of 75 kilometers per hour on the route between Jind and Sonipat.
