India rejects China Pakistan joint statement references to Jammu and Kashmir
NEW DELHI, May 26, 2026 — The Ministry of External Affairs has categorically rejected unwarranted references to the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in a recent joint statement issued by China and Pakistan.
Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India’s position on the matter remains consistent and well-known to all concerned parties.
He reaffirmed that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Ladakh, have been, are, and will always remain integral and inalienable parts of India, emphasizing that no other nation possesses the locus standi to comment on the internal affairs of these territories.
The federal administration also expressed strong opposition to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects, noting that several of these initiatives run through India’s sovereign territory.
The spokesperson clarified that India resolutely opposes any attempts by third-party nations to reinforce or legitimize Pakistan’s illegal and forcible occupation of these areas, which directly impinges upon India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Furthermore, India dismissed references to trans-boundary water resources cooperation between China and Pakistan, pointing out that since the two nations do not share a natural boundary, such cooperation does not arise.
The statement concluded by reiterating that New Delhi has never recognized the 1963 boundary agreement signed between Pakistan and China.
