CBI Director Praveen Sood Receives One Year Tenure Extension

NEW DELHI, May 14, 2026 — The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved a one-year extension for Praveen Sood as the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation.

This decision, based on recommendations from the Selection Committee, extends his leadership beyond the original completion date of May 24, 2026.

A 1986-batch Indian Police Service officer from the Karnataka cadre, Sood will continue to head the premier investigating agency as it handles high-profile cases across the country.
