Continue heavy Rain Bring Udhampur to a Standstill as Raging Tawi River Swells Beyond Danger Mark
Udhampur 26 August :- Life in Udhampur district has been brought to a complete and paralyzing halt due to relentless, heavy rainfall that has lashed the region. The incessant downpour has triggered dangerous flooding, causing local rivers and streams to swell to critical levels. The situation is most severe at the Tawi River, which is currently flowing at a alarming 21.645 feet—far exceeding its danger level of 20 feet and edging perilously close to its evacuation threshold of 23.4 feet.
The escalating crisis has been further compounded by multiple landslides, one of which has forced the closure of the vital Salmay road for public safety. In response to the extreme conditions, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Udhampur, Sandeep Bhat, has issued a stern caution to all residents, emphasizing that all local water bodies are in a severe spate. He has urgently advised the public to stay away from rivers and streams and to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary, citing the intense rainfall and the highly volatile state of the waterways.
