Amritsar Counter Intelligence Busts Trans-Border Drug Racket; 9 Kg Heroin Seized

AMRITSAR, March 9, 2026 — In a major blow to international drug trafficking networks, the Counter Intelligence unit of Amritsar has apprehended a high-level smuggler and recovered 9 kilograms of heroin.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused was operating in direct coordination with Pakistan-based smugglers and was following instructions from handlers across the border to distribute the narcotics across various districts in Punjab.

This successful operation highlights the ongoing challenges of trans-border smuggling and the vigilance required to secure the frontier against narco-terrorism.Following the recovery, a formal FIR has been registered at the Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
