J&K Weather Update: MeT Predicts Rain and Snow Across Higher Reaches; Traffic Advisory Issued
SRINAGAR, March 9, 2026 — The Meteorological Centre Srinagar (MeT) has issued a fresh weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting a spell of light to moderate rain and snow across several parts of the region starting today.
According to the latest update shared on X (formerly Twitter), a generally cloudy sky will prevail from March 9 to 11, bringing precipitation to many areas, particularly the higher reaches.
While the weather is expected to remain generally dry between March 12 and 15, another brief spell of scattered rain and snow is anticipated from March 16 to 18. Residents should also brace for a significant dip in day temperatures by 4°C to 6°C, accompanied by occasional thunder and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h in isolated pockets.
In light of these conditions, authorities have issued a critical advisory warning of temporary traffic disruptions over key mountain passes in Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Anantnag, and Kishtwar districts.
Commuters are urged to check road statuses before traveling through these high-altitude routes. Additionally, the farming community has been advised to suspend all agricultural operations between March 10 and 12 to avoid losses due to the inclement weather.
The MeT department continues to monitor the situation as the region transitions through this volatile atmospheric phase.
